Branding Case Study

  1. Working Knowledge of Graphic Design Software and Digital Tools
  • Create has a new meaning, after all that I have accomplished and in learning Adobe Software. As a Graphic Designer, I enjoyed creating a visual representation of myself through complex forms of programs. With each program providing its own source of benefits and limitations, it was sometimes necessary to use multiple programs for one piece. Therefore, my branding designs are evident of my use of enhancement and editing tools available through Adobe Photoshop or interactivity through InDesign or even testing Mockup (Beta) tools available through Illustrator.
  1. Elements of Design
  • Each step in creating my branding identity kept in line with the Elements of Design. The logo in all forms is balanced in contrast, space, and proportions. There is also unity in my brand identity as the same three-color elements of red, white and black are present in each piece. There is also the inclusion of unique design qualities and variety through use of hierarchy and patterns as a variety of projects are provided in the leave-behind piece and digital portfolio which are also organized in column form.
  1. Creative Self-Expression and Originality
  • I feel that throughout my design process I wanted to express my unique approach to design. I committed myself to creating a brand that would represent my roots and my values while also keeping the user in mind and how they would interpret the design. At each phase of my design, I not only wanted to create something that would bring me joy but others as well. I feel that by including my initials, hometown colors and a comical animal-like facial expression with elements that can be utilized in a variety of ways represents my creativity and originality.
  1. Evidence of Thoughtful and Appropriate Critique Skills
  • Sharing my designs, though daunting at times, has also been liberating and above all helpful. Taking my instructor and my peer’s advice on how to improve my work has allowed me to grow as a Graphic Designer and as a critique myself. I have allowed myself to provide positive and productive feedback to my peers. As it is important to be able to work with others and listen to each other’s suggestions and learn from our mistakes.
  1. Evidence of Following Directions
  • In creating this design, I feel that I did adhere to the given directions and assignment specifications. As I have been learning I feel that it is imperative to follow the directions as closely as possible to accomplish the goal. However, there have been unfortunate instances where things just did not work and that is when further research was necessary. Turning to reputable sources such as the Adobe Website and videos created by other Graphic Designers mentioned by the instructors has been a tremendous help to the accomplishment of my branding identity.
  1. Craftsmanship and Attention to Detail
  • My final project does show evidence of excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. The presentation is clean and concise as the original file’s formatting was considered so that there are no obvious issues in quality such as pixelation. Each file was also converted within the original software to create the required file for delivery. When creating each piece, a grid was used to keep all elements organized, this also aided when creating the columns for the brochure and resume.
